Spanish Soccer First Division Laliga to Be Featured in Decentraland’s Metaverse

Laliga, the Spanish soccer's first division, has formed a strategic partnership to digitize a portion of its activities in Decentraland, an Ethereum-based, metaverse-related company. Laliga hopes to attract new fans around the globe to virtual worlds with this partnership.

Spanish Laliga Preparing Metaverse Entrance

Many leagues and sports organizations around the globe have begun to pay more attention their digital strategies after the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a way to open new revenue streams. Laliga, the Spanish soccer league's first division, is now a member of the metaverse.

The company formed a strategic partnership to allow it to showcase activities and experiences on Decentraland, an Ethereum-based metaverse platform. Stadioplus is a group that links the world of sports and Web3 and the metaverse. Vegas City Limited is another company that creates experiences for the metaverse and virtual realms.

Laliga hopes this move will allow them to reach younger audiences who are more connected to virtual worlds via virtual experiences. These new experiences will be available in a series of packages in Vegas City, which is a Decentraland region that offers entertainment-based and sports-based experiences.

Stephen Ibbotson (head of Laliga franchises and licensing) stated the following:

It is vital that LaLiga continues to innovate in order to offer the best of the competition for our fans on and off the pitch. We will be able to reach new and relevant audiences, like Decentraland, through this license agreement.

Agus Ferreira (CEO of Decentraland Foundation) stated that sports must be integrated into the metaverse.

We think esports offers a great opportunity to showcase the potential of web3/decentralization. Stadioplus is delighted to collaborate with us on Laliga's inclusion in Decentraland. This will allow the competition to reach millions of people around the globe.

Spanish Soccer Teams and The Metaverse

Different metaverse initiatives have been presented by other Spanish teams. FC Barcelona, the largest team in the league launched Barca Studios in March to centralize its development of metaverse activities. Socios.com, a fan-token company, had previously partnered with FC Barcelona before the launch of its fan token. It invested $100 million into Barca Studios in August.

Another Laliga team, FC Real Madrid filed trademark applications to protect their IP in relation to activities in the metaverse.
