Brooklyn residents attend Bitcoin Academy — Some attendees receive a grant for $1,000 in Bitcoin

Bitcoin.com News reported that Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey teamed up to create the Bitcoin Academy in Brooklyn, for Marcy House residents. Business Insider reports that hundreds attended the academy's classes. Jay-Z's mother Gloria Carter said that "Marcy residents showed themselves up." She added, "The more than 350 people who attended The Bitcoin Academy classes let them know that this education matters to them.

Marcy House residents who took part in the classes were also interviewed for the report. The residents of Bedford-Stuyvesant were also able to enroll in a grant, which gave each participant $1,000 in bitcoin (BTC). This grant was sent to their Cashapp and Munn Wallets. Brooklyn residents only were eligible to receive the 12-week-long educational course at no cost. Mariela Regalado, a Marcy resident, said that the academy brought back memories of Jay-Z's childhood in the area.

Regalado shared her memories with Business Insider that Jay-Z and his team used to visit us as a child and give toys and other things. Regalado explained that her daughter was provided with free daycare and that she could attend the courses as a single mom. Regalado added:

The classes were purely a fun, educational adventure that I shared with my neighbors. It felt like we were at a family dinner and that the cousin who discovered Bitcoin was telling everyone else about it.

Bitcoin Academy Instructor Teaches It 'Into A Vernacular that Others Can Understand'

The Brooklyn Bitcoin Academy was also supported by Crypto Blockchain Plug (NajahJ. Roberts), and Black Bitcoin Billionaire, (Lamar Wilson). Wilson was an instructor, and the one who connected with Jack Dorsey, Block CEO, to suggest the program. The courses taught covered subjects such as "Careers in Crypto", "Wealth Building and Assets," and Bitcoin & Taxes.

"A lot of the time, information doesn’t reach our community. It's not because people are deliberately discriminatory. It's because they're not trying to get the information there. Wilson stated that someone has to take up the responsibility and make it happen." Instructor at Brooklyn Bitcoin Academy added:

Because I am able to understand the information and break it down into a language that people can understand, particularly those from my home country, it feels almost like I have an obligation to ensure they get it. It's not to recommend that they buy bitcoins or get them to invest their entire money. Let me give you the information, and let you make your own decisions as an intelligent being.
